Amateur Nevill Ruiter Already Guaranteed a Prestigious Trophy

The award is presented to the best amateur who makes the cut at the KLM Open. It is named after Robbie van Erven Dorens, who served as the tournament’s organizer for many years until 2003. By winning the trophy, Ruiter succeeds Lars van der Vigt, who was the leading amateur in the 2024 KLM Open after finishing in 60th place.

Ruiter said he was proud of the achievement after completing his third round in 73 strokes (+2).

“This round could have been a little better because I missed a few putts from about a metre. That was a shame. I left some shots out there on the greens.”

After three rounds, the nearly two-metre-tall Dutchman sits just outside the top 50. “The pressure was off once I finished my second round this morning.

I knew exactly what score I needed to make the cut, so that was pretty nerve-racking. Making the cut in this tournament as an amateur is a dream. I’m very proud of it.”

It was likely his final opportunity to achieve the feat as an amateur. The 24-year-old, who spent the past several years studying and playing golf in the United States, plans to turn professional at the end of the summer and hopes to return to his home tournament next year.

Of course, he would like to climb a few more places on the leaderboard in the final round, but he has no intention of changing his approach.

“I’ll just keep doing my thing,” he said matter-of-factly.
