Huizing promises fireworks on final day of KLM Open tomorrow
The best Dutchman after three days of KLM Open promises fireworks on the final day. Daan Huizing, meanwhile, feels ‘comfortable at home’ at The International, and had a ‘chill day’. Tomorrow he wants to play ‘aggressively’. ‘Who knows what can still happen,’ he said.

A Dutch victory may not be obvious, but after 54 holes there is no clear favourite yet either. Huizing was already looking ahead to tomorrow’s day, when the best ranked players were still in the course and the Dutchman could not know exactly in which starting position (possibly top-10) he will start tomorrow’s final round.
But apart from that, Huizing is having a good tournament at home. Especially knowing that he is mostly playing a division lower this season.
Nice wind
Today, the man from Soest was also the first Dutchman to bring in a round under 70 strokes this week. In short, reason enough for satisfaction. ‘It wasn’t too bad today compared to the previous days. It was a nice wind. It reminded me of Ireland, where I like and often play well.’
Huizing had a good second nine holes on the third day of play. On the tricky hole 17, he did run into a bogey, but on the final hole 18, he had a putt for eagle that fell just short. Huizing was able to add a birdie there, though. ‘That makes a round like that just that little bit nicer,’ he said.

Tour card
After three rounds, he is in a very good position. ‘I’m in a position that allows me to just play aggressively again tomorrow. If I can make a very low round, who knows what it could bring. Maybe then I’ll still be in contention for victory.’
But any other top ranking would also give him a boost. If he finishes in the top-10, he will automatically get an invitation to the Italian Open in a fortnight’ time.
The choice of whether to gamble on getting a tour card on the DP World Tour or continue to take his chances in that lower division will then be up to him.
Curious
Huizing played today alongside Darius van Driel and Johannes Veerman, American with a Dutch father. Dutch was the language of communication and Huizing found it a chill company. That flight attracted considerable interest.
But many curious golf fans also crowded along the course to watch the skills of Lars van der Vight. The first-year professional played very cleverly inside the cutline this morning during the remainder of Round 2 in the pouring rain. This afternoon he seemed to have maintained that flow, but after thirteen holes the cake was over.
Not he, but Darius van Driel is the Dutch number two for now, four strokes behind Huizing. Lars van Meijel did not make much progress in the third round of the tournament with a round level par.

International shoot out on Sunday
No clear favourite emerged for victory late on Saturday. Swede Joakim Lagergren had the best papers for a long time, but he made many mistakes along the way.
Scotsmen Connor Syme and Richie Ramsay will therefore have plenty of chances to win the 105th edition of the KLM Open tomorrow. But so will the Portuguese Gouveia, the leader after the first day. So Huizing will also be in that company.
Adjusted playing schedule KLM Open – Sunday June 8
Due to the predicted stormy wind in the afternoon of Sunday June 8, the organisation has adjusted the schedule of the KLM Open. The 74 remaining players will start their round as early as 08.00 hrs, split between hole 1 and hole 10, increasing the organisation’s chances of completing the tournament without further delay around 15.00 hrs.
However, should the wind pick up earlier and make play impossible or compromise the safety of players and spectators, this will be communicated as soon as possible. Keep an eye on the KLM Open app, website and socials.
With this decision, the organisation not only puts the safety of players and spectators first, but also emphasises its commitment to a sporting and fair finish to the tournament – weather or no weather.
