Ruud Gullit returns as tournament director of the KLM Open 2026

Tournament moves to Kennemer Golf & Country Club in 2027

Football legend Ruud Gullit will return as tournament director of the KLM Open in 2026. The tournament will take place from June 4 to 7 at The International near Amsterdam. This 106th edition of the DP World Tour event will once again deliver Great golf, good times: top-level European golf in a welcoming and relaxed setting. The 2026 edition will be the final one held at The International. In 2027, the tournament will move to Kennemer Golf & Country Club in Zandvoort.

Ruud Gullit, one of the greatest Dutch footballers of all time and a former Ballon d’Or winner, has been appointed Tournament Director for the second consecutive year. He commented:
“I see myself more as a director of atmosphere than a tournament director. The KLM Open should offer top-level sport, but also energy, enjoyment and connection. Golf at the highest level, all with a smile.”

Golf challenges him in a way similar to football, but also in a different way.
“Football is everything to me, but golf touches me differently. After my football career, golf allows me to stay competitive. Many footballers discover how great golf is after their careers. The competition, the concentration and the game against yourself – top athletes recognize that immediately.”

Daan Slooter will remain responsible as sports tournament director for the international player field and the sporting execution of the event.
“The KLM Open has stood for top golf for more than a century. With Ruud as Tournament Director, we add a unique sporting profile and reach a broader audience.”

Warm-up for Oranje

The KLM Open 2026 starts exactly one week before the FIFA World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

This timing forms the inspiration for the 2026 theme: a sporting warm-up for an international, orange-colored summer. This theme will be reflected in various ways throughout the tournament and Pro-Am programming.

Since its first edition, the KLM Open has grown into one of the most prestigious tournaments on the European calendar. Past winners include Seve Ballesteros, Bernhard Langer, Colin Montgomerie, José María Olazábal and Martin Kaymer.

Each year, the KLM Open attracts between 40,000 and 50,000 visitors, who not only watch Europe’s best golfers compete, but also enjoy a full day out with family, friends or business relations.

Historic return

With the move to Kennemer Golf & Country Club, the KLM Open will return to a historic venue from 2027 onwards. The dune course in Zandvoort has hosted the Dutch Open 23 times before.

“The KLM Open is part of the rich tradition of our course,” says Eric Rahusen, Chairman of Kennemer Golf & Country Club. “We look forward to welcoming the tournament again.”
